CATEGORY: Mergers, Acquisitions & Spin-offs
CHALLENGE: Keeping acquired employees in the loop during a merger while the acquiring company simultaneously spun-off from a large corporate parent.
SOLUTION: Thorough and ongoing employee communication. Throughout the acquisition of a division of a large energy company, employees were asked to work as diligently as possible. Much needed information was delivered to employees regularly through a weekly newsletter. In addition, severance, job opportunity and new employee welcome packages were created. Since the acquiring company was in the midst of its own spin-off, temporary human resources branding was created for all materials.
CATEGORY: Shareholder Communication
CHALLENGE: Displaying financial results and strategic goals in a manner that is accessible to numerous audiences.
SOLUTION: A reconceived annual report for this nationally renowned art museum. Accepting that not all sections of a traditional annual report will appeal to the many audiences that a public institution serves, the approach created for this museum assumed that some portion of the document could be designed to be attractive for each constituency. Dramatic use of color, high-end photography and different paper textures are essential to the design.
CATEGORY: Employee Research
CHALLENGE: Understanding the details of employees' benefit preferences in a rapidly growing company.
SOLUTION: Large-scale employee research. Employee surveys, focus groups and interviews provided management with the data to make informed choices concerning benefit programs, particularly a new consumer-driven health care plan. An increasingly competitive business environment created difficult investment decisions for senior management. Employee input helped drive change over an extended period of time.
